SAG Box/Bus Combinations Drivers
Special Assistance Group (SAG) box/bus combination vehicles transport cyclists from rest stop to rest stop or can transport cyclists and their bikes to lunch or finish. These volunteer positions support the ACC Texas MS 150 as the official event SAG support team, and do not support a specific team, individual, or interest group. This is approximately a 40-hour commitment. Time includes mandatory meetings, training and rental pick-up the Friday before the event/rental drop-off the Monday after event weekend. Plus, SAG duties Saturday and Sunday of the event.
School buses are operated by a company and are paired with box trucks which are driven and navigated by volunteers. Box truck drivers are required to meet three requirements set by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: (1) Pass a criminal background check (2) Pass a Motor Vehicle Record screening (3) view an online driver safety training course.
Box Truck Drivers must have average visual acuity; the ability to drive a large 15-passenger van through tight rider/pedestrian areas; possess the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, such as large bicycle. It is important that SAG drivers practice patience and are able to handle high-pressure situations.
SAG Box Truck Navigators are the co-pilots assisting the driver with directions, and loading bikes.
SAG Box Truck Navigators can assist with driving if the proper requirements are met. They are required to meet three requirements set by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: (1) Pass a criminal background check (2) Pass a Motor Vehicle Record screening (3) view an online driver safety training course.
SAG Box Truck Navigators not planning to assist with driving are required to meet pass a criminal background check.

All SAG drivers are required to have a second person (navigator) who is the co-pilot assisting the driver with directions, be a second set of eyes, and interact with riders in the passenger vans.
