Volunteers will assist with unloading and loading the supply vehicles in the Waltham Warehouse for the 2026 event season. We are flexible with the timeframe and will be ordering lunch for the volunteers!

Bike MS: Ride the Rhode on June 13, 2026, at University of Rhode Island

Spirit Team (SUNDAY):  Standing at the finish line to cheer on participants, using noise makers, handing out medals/mementos, often these volunteers are asked to bring encouraging signs or cheering swag from home to the event.

We are looking for groups, clubs, cheerleading teams, marching bands, and individuals who want to come and support the cyclists.

Unmarking and cleaning up route of signage after event concludes.  Often this task is completed in collaboration with a staff, committee member, or another volunteer utilizing a vehicle or gold cart.

We are seeking a reliable volunteer to support a Walk MS event by assisting with transportation and event logistics. This role is essential to ensuring our event runs smoothly and is ideal for someone comfortable with driving a truck and interested in behind-the-scenes event operations.

Weekend Overview:

Friday, May 15: Pick up event truck at our warehouse in Philadelphia, PA

Saturday, May 16: Support Walk MS: Media, PA (early morning event), then return the truck to the Philadelphia warehouse

Responsibilities:

Drive event truck between locations

Assist with light setup and breakdown as needed

Come help set up tables and chairs in a cool airline hangar! Will roll and set up tables and carry chairs to their location. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes! If you thev work gloves, bring them.

Welcoming participants, looking-up participant name, confirming information and giving numbered packet to participant(s), taking fundraising donations and more.

The Support & Gear (SAG) Volunteers drive in vehicles on route to provide support, transport riders back to start when needed, communicate incidents with staff, and more.

Amateur radio operators are assigned to several different groups or stationed at different locations along the route.

First Aid Volunteers consists of certified medical professionals (EMT, EMS, RN, etc.) who administer First-Aid to event participants.

The Center has been historically known as the Living with MS Area, and includes things like the Wall of Hope and a station for the “I Walk for” bibs. Volunteering in the Center includes setting up supplies for those stations and restocking them throughout the event, as well as handing out any printed materials from the Society or talking with participants about the MS Society. If you are an MS Ambassador or are interested in becoming one, this may be a wonderful opportunity for you!

The Volunteer Check-In Lead collaborates with Society Staff to gain a full understanding of volunteer needs, and day of event takes charge of volunteer check-in and deals with questions or issues that may arise from volunteers. The day will begin with checking in volunteers and directing them on where to go, and then continuing to keep tabs on them throughout the event. The Volunteer Check-In Lead is a liaison between volunteers and Society Staff. This is preferably a volunteer who has helped with this specific event before and is confident in their problem-solving capabilities.

Activities include: Setting up and organizing food service area, handing out food to participants, cleaning up area and putting away supplies.  

In conjunction with the volunteers at the Circles of Support tent, our roamers will walk through the site prior to the event with baskets of the Circles of Support fans, handing them out to participants and explaining how to use them during the program. Periodically check in with the tent volunteers in case they need extra help and to grab more supplies as needed.

The Circles of Support is a new part of the Walk MS program that allows participants to show their support for their loved ones affected by MS. There will be a tent where participants can stop by to pick up their circle and receive instructions from volunteers on what each one represents and how to use them during the program. Volunteers for the Circles of Support Tent are in charge of setting up and taking down the tent and managing it during the event.

Registration volunteers welcome participants to the event and provide them with necessary information before the event starts. Duties include looking up the participant name and confirming their information before giving them a numbered packet.

Each of our Walk MS events include a fun interactive activity called “Complete the Circle”. This display allows participants to look at the stories of other people affected by MS and share their own. Volunteering for this station includes setting up and taking down the Complete the Circle interactive graphic, and managing the circle stickers. You will also instruct to participants on how to fill out and apply circle stickers to graphic.

One exciting, interactive part of Walk MS is the bibs that participants wear to show who they are supporting. This area used to be a part of registration but will now be its own station. Volunteers at this station will periodically restock supplies and also help any participants understand the purpose of the bibs and how to write on them/pin them on.

Assisting photographers with set up, gathering participants, using props or signs, staging photos, reminding participants to use appropriate tags for social media, etc.

Manage this area to keep it safe, welcoming, and fun for both dogs and their owners. Keep water bowls filled, make sure signage is visible and visitors are following all rules (dogs on leash, etc.).

Shuttle participants along the route. Must be 16+, possess a valid driver's license , no background or safety training required but prior knowledge of how to drive a golf cart helpful

Using personal photography equipment (can be a cell phone), capture event including team photos, start & finish line photos, sponsors,  route photos, & festival area photos. Volunteer Photographers are expected to share full rights to digital media with the MS Society in-kind within 2 weeks of the event taking place.  Does not need to be a professional photographer. Shot lists will be shared.

Setting up/breaking down area with appropriate supplies, managing the area during the event which may include passing out bandanas, Society print materials, speaking to constituents about MS Society.  Taking inventory post event of diagnosis date stickers and I walk with MS bandanas. Usually staffed with at least one Staff member.

The Food and Beverage team is in charge of setting up and tearing down the food/beverage area. Most commonly the beverages served are water, coffee, and hot chocolate. Some of these will be self-serve, but be prepared to serve if needed. Snacks are to be laid out so that participants can see and grab them easily. Keep the area clean throughout the event.
