Photographers: Key responsibilities include using personal photography equipment to capture memorable moments of walk teams, sponsors, and participants along the route, as well as participants crossing the finish line. Volunteer photographers are expected to grant the National MS Society full rights to all digital media as an in-kind contribution. 

Route marking volunteers arrive early to mark the route with directional arrows, usually on a bicycle or with two people in a car. Routes are marked at all intersections and at all turns. Some walks offer two routes and arrows will be different colors. Volunteers should be familiar with the area and able to follow written directions and route map. Route marking volunteers will then remove the arrows at the end of the walk, unless otherwise noted. 

Event Greeters: First impressions are important! Greet walkers and welcome participants as they arrive, answer basic questions about the walk site and event (materials will be provided), and help direct walker traffic to appropriate areas (registration area, team tents, rest rooms, etc.).

We ask that most volunteers on this team be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds. This is another role that is relatively easy to pair with other volunteer roles at the event. Tear down often does not begin until the event is over, meaning you can transition from one role right into tear down if you are interested in serving a full day with the Society.

Support the Walk MS volunteer experience by helping fellow volunteers get checked in and oriented. With guidance from an NMSS staff member, this role involves greeting volunteers as they arrive, making sure they check in, receive a volunteer t-shirt, and understand their responsibilities for their shift. 

Walkers need to stay hydrated on the route! Support them by working at the water stop, making sure there is plenty of water available for any participants who need it. Help setup, staff the water stop, and cleanup at the end of the event.

Support NMSS staff members in the registration and information area to help participants feel welcome and prepared for Walk MS. Help get walkers checked-in, oriented, and registered if necessary.

This role may involve accepting donations, so a background check is required.

This one is for the early risers! A crucially important role, this team of volunteers supports NMSS in setting up the Walk site on event day.
