Using personal photography equipment, capture event including team photos, start & finish line photos, route photos, & festival area photos. Volunteer Photographers are expected to share full rights to digital media with the MS Society in-kind. 

SAG vehicles patrol the routes to provide support to cyclists in distress due to injury, bike failure or exhaustion.

SAG vehicles will be either crew cab pickup trucks or minivans and have a driver and navigator/communicator.  They work under the direction of Net Control.

· Serve as communication hub: Be the communication link between other SAGs and Net Control, fostering smooth coordination and support

· Load/unload bicycles: Provide hands-on assistance by loading and unloading bicycles for participants, contributing to a hassle-free experience

· Ensure effective communication: Prioritize clear and effective communication to facilitate the efficient operation of the SAG team and support participants along the route

Drivers must be at least 25 years old and be familiar with driving full size pickup truck/van type vehicles.  All volunteers must complete a background check; drivers must provide a copy of their license and insurance certificate (to prove insurability).  Volunteers must attend training.  Vehicles and meals will be provided. 

Volunteers will be in and out of the vehicles frequently during the day and should be able to assist cyclists lifting and securing their bicycles in the vehicle. 

Motorcycle Marshals are another pair of eyes out on route. 

Motorcycle Marshals are encouraged to be active amateur radio operators with VHF/UHF HAM radio capability on the motorcycle and a cellular phone for backup communications. 

Amateur radio operators are assigned to several different groups or stationed at different locations along the route. This is a one- or two-day commitment, depending on your location.

Shuttle participants along the route. Proof of current driver's license and automobile insurance required. Background check required. Indicate if HAM Radio operator.

Motorcycle Marshals provide motorcycle escort support along the route to troubleshoot problems and ensure rider safety. When needed, they respond to emergencies and traffic situations. Responsibilities may include: Starting the Tour on Days 1 and 2; monitoring the flow of riders; communicating with Tour officials via the command center or net control; and handling minor incidents. *Motorcycle Marshals must have a valid motorcycle driver's license and proof of insurance covering the motorcycle to be ridden in Bike MS. 

Like bicycle riders, all Motorcycle Marshals are required to wear a helmet. Current policy does not allow trikes or any other motorcycle variations with more than two wheels; sidecars; or trailers towed behind the motorcycle.

Ride along with participants and provide support along the route to troubleshoot problems and ensure rider safety. When needed, they respond to emergencies and traffic situations.

Standing at the start/finish line to cheer on participants, using noise makers, handing out medals/mementos, often these volunteers are asked to bring encouraging signs or cheering swag from home to the event.

NET Control

Roaming HAM and SAG drivers -  All volunteer drivers are required to meet the following standards:

• Pass a criminal background check
• Pass a Motor Vehicle Record screening
• Be at least 25 years of age

In addition, all volunteer drivers must have average visual acuity; the ability to drive a 15-passenger van (or a
similar vehicle) through tight rider/pedestrian areas; possess the ability to lift 40 pounds, such as large bicycle. It
is important that SAG drivers practice patience and can handle high-pressure situations.

Stand at a designated route location deemed necessary to flag riders in the correct direction and location. This role does not direct car traffic, just cyclists.

Please note, shift end is flexible. Flaggers will be released as last cyclist passes assigned route location.

Activities Include: Setting up/taking down the rest stop site, serving food and beverages to participants, providing excellent customer service.  Providing encouragement to cyclists as they arrive and leave the rest stop. (Occasional lifting may be required)

Each rest stop will also have a first Aid/Medical volunteer, and a HAM radio operator.

HAM Radio

HAM Radio

First Aid Volunteers consists of certified medical professionals (EMT, EMS, RN, etc.) who administer First-Aid to event participants. The support locations include rest stops, lunch, overnight, finish, and along the route.*This volunteer position is not a bike-riding position.

First Aid Volunteers to assist at the Start/Finish Line festival area at Lake Shelby in Gulf State Park on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Volunteers will help provide basic first aid support, assist riders and participants as needed, and work alongside event staff to help create a safe, welcoming, and energetic experience for everyone involved

You can volunteer for one hour or all day - It's up to you

Setting up/taking down the site, running hydration/fruit stations, serving food and beverages to participants, and providing excellent customer service. (Occasional lifting may be required)

Massage Therapists - Provide massage therapy service for cyclists - Therapists can charge $20 per 15-minute Massage. 

Setting up/taking down the site, running hydration/fruit stations, serving food and beverages to participants, providing excellent customer service. (Occasional lifting may be required).

This position will be assisting the with checking in Volunteers with limited to no supervision.  Checking in volunteers, ensuring paperwork is turned in and volunteers receive a t-shirt and instructions for their volunteer shift.

Cleaning up the event site, taking down decorations, signage and banners, breaking down tents, tables, and chairs, organizing and loading  supplies (heavy lifting required ≤50lbs)

Selling jerseys, welcoming, and speaking with riders. Setting up/breaking down area with appropriate supplies, managing the mission area during the event which may include disseminating Society print materials, speaking to constituents about MS Society. This area may include community focused areas or mission focused areas like "Wall of Hope," "I ride for"/"I walk for" bibs or similar collateral, may vary by market.

Checking to ensure participants entering the VIP tent are wearing their VIP wristband or are on the list. Providing great customer service.

Helping staff with various tasks throughout the event, setting up/tearing down event site, communicating with other volunteers,  filling in for others on an "as needs" basis (lifting may be required)

Setting up/taking down hydration area. Welcoming and encouraging/congratulating participants, serving beverages,  icing down beverages and replenishing supplies as needed, keeping hydration area clean. 

This position will be assisting the Volunteer Engagement Specialist with checking in Volunteers. Checking in volunteers, ensuring paperwork is turned in and volunteers receive a t-shirt and instructions for their volunteer shift.

(Occasional lifting may be required).  Optimal to have a Lead or Rest Stop Captain in addition to volunteers. The Lead will arrive early and stay until items are picked up. They will communicate with the VE Lead and/or EP throughout the event and if anything is needed at the rest stop.
