The Circles of Support are a new interactive activity to go along with the new Walk MS experience! These volunteers will wander through the event site with baskets of the circle fans, passing them out to participants who need them. You will also help them understand what each circle represents and how to use them during the program.

Using personal photography equipment, capture event including team photos, start & finish line photos, route photos, & festival area photos. Volunteer Photographers are expected to share full rights to digital media with the MS Society in-kind. 

First Aid Volunteers consists of certified medical professionals, or first aid certified volunteers. (EMT, EMS, RN, CPR certified etc.) who administer First-Aid to event participants. The support locations include rest stops, lunch, overnight, finish, and along the route. *This volunteer position is not a bike-riding position.

Use personal photography equipment to capture event photos and upload quality capture to the Society’s Flickr Group Account. Volunteer Photographers are expected to share full rights to digital media and will be asked to focus on a Shot List, provided prior to the event.

Set up/taking down Rest Stop. Welcoming and encouraging participants, serving beverages, icing down beverages, and replenishing supplies as needed, keeping hydration area clean

Hydration Station volunteers get to be a smiling face and a source of water on the Walk MS route! Volunteers are in charge of the set up and tear down of the hydration area, often at the half way point on the walk route. Some routes may have 1 station, others may have 2. Be an encouraging face along the route and restock beverages as needed. Try to keep the area around the hydration station relatively clean throughout the walk.

Responsibilities include: Marking event route with signage to indicate the direction participants should follow. Often this task is completed in collaboration with a staff member, committee member, or another volunteer utilizing a vehicle or golf cart.

Volunteer Journalist:

Student or individual with professional skills, volunteer will interview participants, take video or photos using appropriate tags on social media.

Families, corporate groups, and individuals of all ages and abilities are welcome to volunteer. We are always looking for youth clubs, and corporate and service-oriented community groups to lend a hand before, during, and after our events. Whether you’re living with MS and just want to say thank you at the Finish Line, or you’re ready to help with set up, there’s a place for you at Walk MS!

When you volunteer, you become part of the MS movement – a community of passionate individuals working together to create a world free of MS. Together, we provide support, have fun, and make a difference for the nearly 1 million people living with MS in the United States.

Route marking volunteers arrive early to mark the route with directional arrows, usually on a bicycle or with two people in a car. Routes are marked at all intersections and at all turns. Some walks offer two routes and arrows will be different colors. Volunteers should be familiar with the area and able to follow written directions and route map. Route marking volunteers will then remove the arrows at the end of the walk, unless otherwise noted. 

Spirit Team: You are here to motivate, encourage, and congratulate participants for their achievements! Using provided supplies (or your own), cheer on participants at the start, finish, and along the route.

Event Greeters: First impressions are important! Greet walkers and welcome participants as they arrive, answer basic questions about the walk site and event (materials will be provided), and help direct walker traffic to appropriate areas (registration area, team tents, rest rooms, etc.). 

Volunteering wherever the biggest need is. Jumping in to give other volunteers breaks.

Loading supplies, taking down tents, tables, and chairs, taking down banners and signage, (heavy lifting required ≤50lbs).

Stand at the start/finish line to cheer on participants as they begin and finish the route. Some supplies may be provided but feel free to bring signs or cheering swag from home to the event.

Set-up volunteers arrive early to help unload the supply truck and prepare the walk site by distributing supplies, setting up tents, tables, and chairs, hanging banners and signage, decorating tents and tables, and more! Heavy lifting required ≤50lbs.

This is a great job for families, school or athletic groups, boy and girl scout troops, etc. Often, set-up volunteers continue to a different assignment after set-up such as rest-stop or registration.

Assist staff with checking in volunteers, ensuring paperwork is turned in and volunteers receive a t-shirt and instructions for their volunteer shift. You may be asked to assist with other volunteer tasks such as set-up, spirit team, and cleanup. 

Registration and information volunteers assist staff with welcoming participants, providing general event information, and registering new participants. This role may involve taking fundraising donations, so a background check is required. This is a seated opportunity.

Volunteers may be asked to support others areas of the event after registration has ended.

The Tear Down crew is our closing shift, our volunteers who help us make sure the event site is left nicer than when we arrived. We ask that most volunteers on this team be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds. This is another role that is relatively easy to pair with other volunteer roles at the event. Tear down often does not begin until the event is over, meaning you can transition from one role right into tear down if you are interested in serving a full day with the Society.

Unmarking and cleaning up route of signage after event concludes. Often this task is completed in collaboration with a staff, committee member, or another volunteer utilizing a vehicle or gold cart.

We're looking for volunteers to support Walk MS as First Aid volunteers. These can be anyone who has a current First Aid/CPR certification within the past two years, and they provide first aid to participants for minor injuries as needed.

First Aid volunteers may be asked to assist with other volunteer areas during the event as needed.

A dedicated photographer to capture photos of Walk MS participants, volunteers, and staff in action is necessary to document the day. If you'd like to share your photography talents with us on event day, please sign up for this shift!

Professional photography equipment is not required, but volunteers are expected to share their content with the National MS Society after the event.

First impressions are important! Greet walkers and welcome participants as they arrive, answer basic questions about the walk site and event (materials will be provided), and help direct walker-traffic to appropriate areas (registration area, team tents, rest rooms, etc.).

Walkers love to hear motivation and encouragement from the crowd as they walk to help us end MS! Support the cause by joining the Spirit Team - cheer on participants as they start and finish using noisemakers, pom poms, and more!

This opportunity is great for youth cheerleaders, athletic teams, or other team groups! Spirit Team volunteers may be asked to support other volunteer areas during their shift.

Heavy lifting up to 50lbs may be necessary, but non-heavy lifting tasks are also available.
