You will be helping to clean up the event site; taking down banners and decorations, tables and chairs, loading supplies into trucks, etc. Please note that some lifting will be required.

Setting up/taking down the site, running hydration/fruit stations, serving food and beverages to participants, providing excellent customer service. (Occasional lifting may be required).

Helping set up, and prepare the breakfast space. Help re-stock items that are getting low, and provide customer service for participants as they arrive to Kuipers Farm.

Shuttle participants along the route. Proof of current driver's license and automobile insurance required. Background check required. Other Drivers Safety Training (online) required.

This is an ALL DAY shift, where you will be driving and mingling with participants and volunteers. Its a great way to engage with the event!

General Volunteers provide key support at the Finish Line in numerous ways, including distributing t-shirts and medals and cheering on riders as they cross the finish line. This position is open to anyone and everyone! Please feel free to write in the comments if there are any tasks you are unable to do or would prefer not to do, and we will make sure to keep that in mind!

Shifts can be customized based on availability

Ride Marshals are registered cyclists who act as both Good-Will and Safety Ambassadors for Bike MS. Ride Marshal applicants must be 18 years of age, be passionate and knowledgeable about safe cycling, and
be willing to work with fellow cyclists to promote safe cycling. Ride Marshals must have completed at least one Bike MS event within five years.

Bike Mechanics provide technical, mechanical, and repair service support on route and at various sites during Bike MS.

Motorcycle Marshals provide motorcycle escort support along the route to troubleshoot problems and ensure rider safety. When needed, they respond to emergencies and traffic situations. Responsibilities may include the following: Starting the route on Days 1 ; monitoring the flow of riders; communicating with Ride officials via the command center or net control; and handling minor incidents. Like bicycle riders, all Motorcycle Marshals are required to wear a helmet. Current policy does not allow trikes or any other motorcycle variations with more than two wheels; sidecars; or trailers towed behind the motorcycle.

*Motorcycle Marshals must have a valid motorcycle driver's license and proof of insurance covering the motorcycle to be ridden in Bike MS.

Seasoned, registered rider with CPR/First Aid certification, assigned to a specific portion of the route. Provides basic first aid for riders as necessary.

The medical support team consists of certified medical professionals (EMT, EMS, RN, etc.) who
administer First-Aid to Bike MS event participants. The support locations include rest stops, lunch, finish, and along the route.

Assist SAG driver as they patrol a specific portion of the route, picking up tired cyclists for transport to nearest rest stop. All volunteer navigators must pass a criminal background check.

Setting up and organizing food service area (in partnership with catering where applicable), handing out food to participants, cleaning up area and putting away supplies. Most items are single serve. Preparing and assisting riders at the hydration station. General sanitation protocols are in place (i.e., hand sanitizer, gloves, etc.)

Setting up/breaking down area with appropriate supplies, managing the area during the event which may include passing out bandanas, Society print materials, speaking to constituents about MS Society.  Taking inventory post event of diagnosis date stickers and I walk with MS bandanas. Usually staffed with at least one Staff member.

Event Registration & Information Team: Welcoming participants, looking-up participant name, confirming information, answering questions, and taking fundraising donations.  (Background check required for volunteers handling donations)

Volunteer massage therapists must provide a digital copy of their massage licensure and insurance. Massage therapists use touch to treat and alleviate participants’ injuries and fatigue as well as promote general wellness.

Standing at the finish line to cheer on participants, using noise makers, handing out medals/mementos, often these volunteers are asked to bring encouraging signs (either pre-prepared or from home) or cheering swag (available at volunteer tent)

Setting up/taking down rest stop area. Welcoming and encouraging/congratulating participants, serving beverages, icing down beverages and replenishing supplies as needed, keeping area clean.

NOTE: Rest Stop locations are still being determined. If you have a specific request (i.e. you don't like to ride the gondola, you want to be at the bottom for the accessibility route, etc.), please note that information in the comments section of your registration.

The top route volunteer is there to direct and cheer for hikers on the top of the mountain.

These volunteers are our nice way of saying "you dont have to go home, but you can't stay here!" Start your shift by helping cheer on hikers at the finish line, then help us with the event end logistics like waste management, site tear down, and other cleanup. Volunteers will ideally be able to lift 50+ pounds.

These volunteers help us get the party started and get our hikers on their way! Show up bright and early with the MS Society staff (our Volunteer Engagement Specialist is doing everything she can to get us coffee and donuts!)

 Saturday volunteers will help with site set-up, help keep the start and finish line clean by getting our trash to the designated locations, and cheer on our hikers at the start line or finish line. Volunteers should be able to lift 50+ pounds ideally, but there is also decorating to be done which does not require lifting.

Volunteers on our COMMS team are amateur radio operators who are assigned to several different groups or stationed at different locations along the route. Duties include helping staff relay information to rest stops, maintaining clear communication along the route, and responding to incidents.

Motorcycle Marshals provide motorcycle escort support along the route to troubleshoot problems and ensure rider safety. When needed, they respond to emergencies and traffic situations. Responsibilities may include: Starting the ride ahead of cyclists; monitoring the flow of riders; communicating with Tour officials via the command center or net control; and handling minor incidents. *Motorcycle Marshals must have a valid motorcycle driver's license and proof of insurance covering the motorcycle to be ridden in Bike MS.  

Like bicycle riders, all Motorcycle Marshals are required to wear a helmet. Current policy does not allow trikes or any other motorcycle variations with more than two wheels; sidecars; or trailers towed behind the motorcycle. 

Motorcycle Marshals are encouraged to be active amateur radio operators with VHF/UHF HAM radio capability on the motorcycle and a cellular phone for backup communications.

Ride Marshals have the important job of riding alongside participants and providing assistance when problems arise. Because of this, Ride Marshals should be confident cyclists, and have their own equipment (bike, helmet). If needed, Ride Marshals respond to emergencies and traffic situations while also contacting the necessary support (Medical, MS Staff, HAMS).  

Each day of the ride is lifted as a shift below, please select which days you will be volunteering. 

Ideally, we would like our Ride Marshal volunteers to be First Aid certified in case of any incidents along the route. Please leave a comment if you are not certified.
