Opportunities From: The National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Official officer cyclists who act as both Good-Will and Safety Ambassadors for Bike MS. Must be an experienced cyclist and passionate and knowledgeable about safe cycling. Must be willing to work with fellow cyclists to promote safe cycling and enforce the rules of the road.

Patrol a specific portion of the route, picking up tired cyclists for transport to nearest rest stop. All volunteer drivers are required to meet the following standards:

• Pass a criminal background check

• Pass a Motor Vehicle Record screening

• Be at least 25 years of age

In addition, all volunteer drivers must have average visual acuity; the ability to drive a 15-passenger van (or similar vehicle) through tight rider/pedestrian areas; possess the ability to lift 40 pounds, such as large bicycle. It is important that SAG drivers practice patience and can handle high-pressure situations.

The Volunteer Lead creates a working infrastructure throughout the event.  Key Responsibilities include:

• Manage large groups of volunteers in multiple locations
• Serve as liaison between Staff and volunteers on event weekend

photos, route photos, & festival area photos. Photographers are expected to share full rights to digital media with the MS Society in-kind within 2 weeks of the event.

Saturday: volunteer will begin in Sundance Square then jump ahead of riders to various rest stops/lunch stop/finish line in Glen Rose.

Shifts can be customized based on availability

Motorcycle Marshals provide motorcycle escort support along the route to troubleshoot problems and ensure rider safety. When needed, they respond to emergencies and traffic situations. Responsibilities may include the following: Starting the route on Days 1 and 2; monitoring the flow of riders; communicating with Ride officials via the command center or net control; and handling minor incidents. Like bicycle riders, all Motorcycle Marshals are required to wear a helmet. Current policy does not allow trikes or any other motorcycle variations with more than two wheels; sidecars; or trailers towed behind the motorcycle.

*Motorcycle Marshals must have a valid motorcycle driver's license and proof of insurance covering the motorcycle to be ridden in Bike MS.

Serve as part of the communications hub for the event. The team monitors weather conditions, route and riders and coordinates/dispatches SAG team as necessary. This team serves as the single point of contact for all staff, riders and support groups (bike police, ride marshals, bike medics, etc.) and is responsible for managing both weather and medical emergencies.

Set-up volunteers arrive early to help unload the supply truck and prepare the walk site by distributing supplies, setting up tents, tables, and chairs, hanging banners and signage, decorating tents and tables, and more! Heavy lifting required ≤50lbs.

This is a great job for families, school or athletic groups, boy and girl scout troops, etc. Often, set-up volunteers continue to a different assignment after set-up such as rest-stop or registration.

Assist staff with checking in volunteers, ensuring paperwork is turned in and volunteers receive a t-shirt and instructions for their volunteer shift. You may be asked to assist with other volunteer tasks such as set-up, spirit team, and cleanup. 

Seasoned, registered rider with CPR/First Aid certification, assigned to a specific portion of the route. Provides basic first aid for riders as necessary.

In conjunction with the volunteers at the Circles of Support tent, our roamers will walk through the site prior to the event with baskets of the Circles of Support fans, handing them out to participants and explaining how to use them during the program. Periodically check in with the tent volunteers in case they need extra help and to grab more supplies as needed.

First Aid Volunteers consists of certified medical professionals (EMT, EMS, RN, etc) who administer First-Aid to event participants.  The support locations include rest stops, lunch, overnight, finish, and along the route.

The Greeters will welcome participants and direct them to the appropriate areas at the event site, in addition to answering questions as needed, ensuring registration lines are moving quickly and that participants have all necessary materials completed before they get to the front of the line.

Lead volunteer check-in, ensuring volunteers are checked in upon arrival and that the proper paperwork is on file or completed. Provide directions to and instructions for specific volunteer positions. Ensure all paperwork is returned to staff at end of event.

We are always looking for youth clubs, and corporate and service-oriented community groups to lend a hand before, during, and after our events. When you volunteer, you become part of the MS movement – a community of passionate individuals working together to create a world free of MS. Together, we provide support, have fun, and make a difference for the nearly 1 million people living with MS in the United States.

Welcoming participants, ensuring luggage is properly tagged, checking participants' luggage in/out of secured area, lifting, and moving duffle bags, tents, coolers, and luggage cases, providing excellent customer service. (Lifting required ≤ 20 lbs.)

Marking event route with signage to indicate the direction participants should follow. Often this task is completed in collaboration with a staff, committee member, or another volunteer utilizing a vehicle or golf cart.

Walk the site, gathering any trash, left-over drink containers, etc., for proper disposal.

Registration and information volunteers assist staff with welcoming participants, looking-up participant name, confirming information and giving numbered packet to participant(s). This role may involve taking fundraising donations, so a background check is required. This is a seated opportunity.

Volunteers may be asked to support others areas of the event after registration has ended.

And if you are unable to stay for a full shift, we welcome anyone willing to come cheer even just for an hour or two!

Setting up/taking down the site, running hydration/fruit stations, serving food and beverages to participants, providing excellent customer service. (Occasional lifting may be required).

Optimal to have a Lead or Rest Stop Captain in addition to volunteers. The Captain will arrive early and stay until items are picked up. They will communicate with the VE Lead and/or EP throughout the event and if anything is needed at the rest stop. They will receive and distribute lunches for volunteers at their stop.

We're looking for volunteers to support Walk MS as First Aid volunteers. These can be anyone who has a current First Aid/CPR certification within the past two years, and they provide first aid to participants for minor injuries as needed.

First Aid volunteers may be asked to assist with other volunteer areas during the event as needed.
