Help with inventorying our Walk MS Pittsburgh supplies (counting items in bins, inventorying banners, organizing into bins, etc).

Set-up volunteers arrive early to help unload the supply truck and prepare the walk site by distributing supplies, setting up tents, tables, and chairs, hanging banners and signage, decorating tents and tables, and more! Heavy lifting required ≤50lbs.

This is a great job for families, school or athletic groups, boy and girl scout troops, etc. Often, set-up volunteers continue to a different assignment after set-up such as rest-stop or registration.

Assist staff with checking in volunteers, ensuring paperwork is turned in and volunteers receive a t-shirt and instructions for their volunteer shift. You may be asked to assist with other volunteer tasks such as set-up, spirit team, and cleanup. 

Registration and information volunteers assist staff with registering new participants and providing general event info. This role may involve taking fundraising donations, so a background check is required. This is a seated opportunity.

Volunteers may be asked to support others areas of the event after registration has ended.

In 2024, Walk MS released a new participant experience! Components include The Center, Why I Walk, Circles of Support, and Complete the Circle. Volunteer responsibilities will include set up and tear down, managing supplies during the event, greeting guests as they arrive and helping them interact with the activities.

As the name suggests, these volunteers are available to "float around" to whatever role is needed at any given time throughout the event. The true Jacks-of-all-Trades of Walk MS, these volunteers come through in the clutch when we really need them! 

First impressions are important! Greet and welcome participants as they arrive, answer basic questions about the walk site and event (materials will be provided), and help direct walker-traffic to appropriate areas (registration area, team tents, rest rooms, etc.).

Walkers love to hear motivation and encouragement from the crowd as they walk to help us end MS! Support the cause by joining the Spirit Team - cheer on participants as they start and finish using noisemakers, pom poms, and more!

Spirit Team volunteers may be asked to support other volunteer areas during their shift.

The Top Fundraiser Area is a VIP experience for participants and teams who fundraised the highest amounts for Walk MS in 2025. Volunteers will support check-in, a photo area, and the food and beverage area of the Top Fundraiser Area.

A dedicated photographer to capture photos of Walk MS participants, volunteers, and staff in action is necessary to document the day. If you'd like to share your photography talents with us on event day, please sign up for this shift!

Professional photography equipment is not required, but volunteers are expected to share their content with the National MS Society after the event.

SAG Driver: Shuttle participants along the route. If driving your own vehicle, proof of current driver's license, automobile insurance is required. *Completed Safety Training and Background check required for all drivers and navigators. 

First Aid Volunteers are CPR/First Aid certified individuals, not required to be licensed medical professionals such as EMTs, EMS personnel, who provide basic first aid to event participants at designated support locations, including the start/finish area and stations along the route.

These volunteers come in fresh near the end of the event to help the tired staff team clean up the event site. Responsibilities include picking up trash, taking down decorations, signage and banners, breaking down tents, tables, and chairs, organizing and loading supplies, and anything else needed to ensure the walk site is cleaned and cleared. Heavy lifting up to 50lbs may be necessary, but non-heavy lifting tasks are also available.
